Vintage Love

In order to pay homage to great fashion we must also look to the past, and what do we see?  The past is our present and yes there's lots of plaid, polka dots, flowing maxi dresses, big glasses, and we can't forget color everywhere.  This year’s trend lends a hand to the 60's, 70's and yes the Michael Jackson 80's.  From the hairdo's to the Jeffrey Campbell shoes we can thank the past for such inspirational fashion.  There appears to be an effortless ease to the seasons current looks and everyone is pulling this off.  To achieve your vintage glam look bright lips in red, pink orange and any color that you can tastefully pull off is a must and the latest lip trend that is getting all the rave is a nude lip.  Nars has great hues of lipstick and goes on smooth though a little pricey, you can always look to my fav Mac lipstick which I adore their Ruby Woo red lipstick.  Whatever your style I'm sure this season and 2011 year will have something that will compliment your body so  much so you might be requesting Fashion 2012 to keep this trend going.

American Men and “European” style

Ok I must first say that I love a man who appears to be wearing clothing tailored for his specific body type.  But most men here in America don’t always know how to pull off that “European” look.  Just because you’re wearing a fitted shirt or tight jeans doesn’t mean you’re giving off the same affect.   European styled clothing just means there is more tailoring involved to contour one’s body.  A shirt one or two sizes smaller or straight legged pants a size smaller doesn’t mean you’re pulling off the European look.  I had to address this because a lot of women are starting to get tired of you walking around in “ball” crunchers.  I believe any man at any size can pull it off as long as it’s done right.  Recently I saw a well dressed man who was in urban gear “tailored” to contour his physique, but then he walked past and I turned to notice his sagging jeans showing off his Hugo Boss boxers.  I love Hugo Boss boxers on men but I don’t want to see yours in the middle of Union Station.  If the European look is going to be pulled off there must be some bounders and rules and I’ve found a few:

1.       Only buy clothing that fit
2.       Look for items that has great tailoring for your body type
3.       Don’t be afraid to experiment with clothing
4.       Try on and consult someone with an objective view and then try on again
5.       If all else fails, if it’s pinching your skin it’s just too small

When done right, the look is not only classic but it gives the appearance that you definitely care how you look.  Keep it sexy, keep it clean, and always keep it you.

Fashion Stress

Ok, I woke up this morning feeling good and loving the outfit I had chosen for today.  I hopped in the shower started to prepare my face and forgot I washed my hair last night and needed to tend to it immediately.  When I removed my scarf I couldn't think of anything to do with my hair, I was tired of this short look and it just was not acting right at all.  For me my look was never complete unless my hair agreed with my outfit or so I thought.  I knew I couldn't spend too much time getting ready because I did have to make it to work but at the same time I had to look presentable as well, well at least to my standards.  So I focused more on getting my eyebrows right, making sure I had on the best shoes to match my dress and then back to my hair.  The more I sat and thought, it came to me, a headband.  I had never really been into headbands enough to wear them but I did own quite a few.  As I added my accessories and dawned my hair with a goddess style headband, I knew I was ready to take on my daily runway.  Before I made it out the door I did one more "look over" in the mirror than I was confident I had defeated the "bad hair day syndrome".  I laughed as I walked out the door because the hour in a half I spent stressing over something so simple.  No matter what we must remember we make fashion and fashion definitely doesn't make us so keep it confident, keep it cute, and most importantly keep it you.

This is how I felt this morning...LOL

Today's Fashion

Washington, DC has always gotten a bad rep for Fashion.  We hear so much about New York and how fashionable it is, this is true but DC definitely is a contender.  Fashion here is forever evolving there's no one set trend, we aren't just urban nor rock or even conservative.  When we look to the streets we can feel the pulse of our community filled with vibrant young and trendy people all with a unique perspective on fashion.  What I like most is how daring DC's fashion has become. What we see is a multitude of cultural elements all coinciding to create masterpieces of style.  We are the nations capitol and we are becoming a fashion capitol as well.  So watch out Fashion world DC is stepping up to the plate and soon you will be looking to us to set tomorow's trend.
